Edouard Bastarache, physician and
ceramicist, greatly fascinated by ceramics and the
toxicology applied to this activity, is a keen tester
of ceramic glaze recipes and substitutions for raw
ceramic materials. Unceasingly in preparation of new
series of tests, he undoubtedly holds a record in this
speciality. In a spirit of sharing with the
international community of ceramicists, he regularly
sends the results of his work to Bob Wilt, responsible
to store and to diffuse them on the Internet.
- But
I have said too much about it, here thus the
presentation of this great project by Edouard
Bastarache himself...

- A-The GlazeBase
Project:
-
- The GlazeBase Project was
launched in 1992 by Bob Feder, an American ceramicist.
The team of the GlazeBase project works to establish
an international database of very well documented
glaze recipes. This database is useful as a much valid
source of recipes for use in the workshop and in
education and as a resource for any type of research
on glazes, from a technical or historical point of
view. All can have access to it via the Internet.

- B-Recent Submissions
to GlazeBase:
-
- My on-line friend Bob Wilt,
holder of a Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences of the famous
Institute of Research MIT of Harvard University in
Boston, Mass, USA, now ceramicist and computer
specialist, went voluntary to manage the Recent
Submissions sent by ceramicists to the GlazeBase
project.
-
- Bob is also the author of
the glaze calculation software GlazeChem available on
his site:
-
- http://www.dinoclay.com/software/glzchem.html
-
- He carries out a checking of
these submissions, stores them on his site and makes
them thus available to the international community
ceramicists. Thereafter, the recipes are transferred
to a web site called the " Ceramics Web" of the San
Diego State University directed by professor Richard
Burkett at:

-
- C-My Submissions :
-
- As I test much in the
chemistry of glazes, all my tested recipes are sent to
Bob Wilt to be part of the process described above. So
far, I have forwarded nearly 600 recipes to this
project and I have many more to send. All of them have
not been uploaded yet on the Ceramics Web, then to
make all of them available to my colleagues, I
recommend they access them at the following URL :
